Asgiriya Stadium

The stadium has a unique claim to fame - it is the only international stadium to be maintained by a secondary school, the prestigious Trinity College, where amongst a host of other international cricketers, current national captain Kumar Sangakkara studied.

Due to the lack of flat land in the Lankan Highlands the ground was carved out of the hill that lies behind the ground. What the unfortunate souls who had to do this created was yet another stunning Sri Lankan cricket ground, surrounded by lush mountains. The wicket is the most seamer friendly in the country especially when the clouds come in from the neighbouring hills.

The stadium no longer hosts international cricket due to the emergence of the Pallekelle stadium, but it did host one of the most acrimonious Test in history when England and Sri Lanka nearly came to blows during the home sides defeat on the 2001 tour.
