Sri Lankan Cricket Grounds
A charming 15,000 capacity ground, tucked away in a quiet corner of Colombo. The ground hosted Sri Lanka's first ever test in 1982 and was also the scene for the islands first Test victory, against India in 1985.
The ground is home to the Tamil Union Cricket Club, where Sri Lanka's favourite son and the world's leading wicket taker, Murali, has played all his club cricket, with extraordinary results, that are shown on the famous ivy covered scoreboard.
After a lull in the 1990's the Oval has become firmly established again as an international venue and had extensive reconstruction work done in 2007, to bring it up to the required standard. The renovations do not detract from the languid ambience that abounds within and a sporty wicket, good nets and tasty kitchen combine to make this a wonderful place for a game of cricket.
