R. Premadasa Stadium
R. Premadasa Stadium

The quintessential sub-continental stadium- big, brash and in your face. Situated in the outskirts of Colombo, it was the brainchild of Ranasinghe Premadasa, the late Sri Lankan president. The stadium hosted its first match in 1986 and has gone on to become an established ground of the international circuit.

The ground is most famous for Sri Lanka's momentous 952/6 against India in 1997, still the highest score for a Test Innings. Completely renovated for the 2011 World Cup, the ground will host seven matches during the World Cup, including a quarter and semi final.

The cauldron like atmosphere is in direct contrast to Colombo's other international stadiums and makes for a uniquely sub-continental atmosphere. The ground is also home to the training wing of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, so there are good training facilities available.
