The spiritual home of Sri Lankan cricket and headquarters for the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. A beautiful ground in the heart of Colombo's most prestigious residential district, the stadium is a regular host to international games and domestic finals, as well as the Big Match an annual game between Colombo's two leading schools that draws in full houses.

Since its inaugural test in 1984, the wicket has developed a justified reputation as a batsmen's paradise. Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara put on the record first class partnership for any wicket of 624 against South Africa in 2006/7. The Bangladeshi batsmen Mohammed Ashraful, became the youngest man ever to reach a test century, when one day short of his `17th birthday he reached three figures at the ground.
